Requirements

Candidates must possess an MD or DO degree, hold a current and unrestricted medical license in at least one jurisdiction, and be willing to obtain additional licenses as needed. Board certification in an approved ABMS Medical Specialty is required, along with excellent communication skills and 5 years of clinical experience. A strong understanding of managed care, including Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial products, is essential, as is a passion for improving consumer experiences. Preferred qualifications include experience in medical utilization management, working with health insurance organizations, hospitals, and other healthcare providers, and direct patient interaction. Relevant clinical specialties include Internal Medicine, Family Practice, Geriatrics, Hospitalist, Anesthesiology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Emergency Medicine, and General Surgery.

Responsibilities

The Corporate Medical Director will review health claims and preservice appeals, providing medical interpretation and decisions on the appropriateness of services in compliance with review policies. This role involves representing Humana at Administrative Law Judge hearings and exercising independent judgment on complex issues with minimal supervision. The position requires analyzing variable factors to determine the best course of action and working on problems of diverse scope and complexity.
